Cybergrooming: How Sex Offenders Hunt Children On The Internet

2021-01-27T23:10:37.415Z

Adults look to children on the Internet in order to abuse them. Usually the perpetrators pretend to be children. One such case of cybergrooming is now being negotiated in Düsseldorf.

At just before nine-thirty he walks down the court hall.

The shoulders are narrow, he looks at the ground.

He has pulled his woolen hat low over his forehead, a mouth and nose mask hides his face.

He walks past journalists and enters the hall.

His lawyer Udo Vetter says his client will admit the allegations.

He wanted to spare the girl a statement so as not to cause more damage.

In the hall, Vetter applies for the public to be excluded before the indictment is read out.

It is important to protect the rights of the girl, but also the privacy of his client.

The child's mother sits across from him as a joint plaintiff, she shakes her head and buries her face in her hands.

Her husband will later say that they would have liked »that everyone could see what's going on and that people could take a look at what kind of person it is«.

But the chamber decides in favor of the defendant.

Tobias H., 26, had to answer before the Düsseldorf Regional Court in December for allegedly abusing children over the Internet.

On the video platform Likee, he pretended to be a 13-year-old girl and chatted with his victims.

His goal: you should send him child pornography.

He is charged with four contacts - how many children he actually contacted is unclear.

A ten-year-old sent him at least 20 pictures and videos that she took for him.
