The ECDC has corrected the Covid contagion map published today around 1pm. In the new version,

Veneto and Emilia Romagna

are no longer dark red but only red.

In Italy, the areas defined as highly contagious - and therefore in dark red - remain Friuli Venezia Giulia and the Autonomous Province of Bolzano.

Dark red areas increase in the Iberian Peninsula, decrease in Germany and southern Sweden.

The colors of the European Union for Covid are five: green, orange, red and gray (the latter indicates the absence of sufficient data), to which dark red has been added.

The map is based on the proposal presented by the European Commission on Tuesday.

The "dark red" indicates areas where the virus is circulating at very high levels, with the case notification rate exceeding 500 per 100,000 people.

According to the updated map, as well as in the Italian regions mentioned, these characteristics can be found in almost the entire Iberian peninsula (Spain and Portugal), Ireland, the Baltic countries, some areas of France, Holland and Sweden, East Germany and Czechia.

"It is shameful that the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (Ecdc) today updated the map of Covid-19 infections in Europe, placing Fvg, Veneto and ER among the areas in dark red. These are Regions that in Italy they have never even been in the red zone. We ask the Government to intervene immediately at European level to ask for the correction of this mapping ".

This was stated by the governor of Fvg,

Massimiliano Fedriga

, at the end of the session of the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces.

According to the Governor of Fvg, this mapping, "taking into consideration a single parameter, only penalizes those who are able to swab many".

The President of the Region is convinced that "this mechanism for assessing the spread of the pandemic produces very serious damage to the image of the entire North East with heavy repercussions in particular on our tourism sector".

Therefore, "we cannot accept a mapping that is not based on shared scientific data. For this reason - concluded Fedriga - we ask the national executive to act immediately in defense of the Italian regions".
