Formula 1 and Spanish motorsport is in mourning.
Adrián Campos, one of the most influential personalities in the world of Iberian motors, died at the age of 60: he was a driver of the Italian team Minardi and discovered the two-time world champion Fernando Alonso.
Victim of a heart problem, the former Valencian driver also distinguished himself as team leader and discoverer of talents, among which stand out in addition to Alonso, Antonio García and Marc Gené.
The news of the death - as reported by the Spanish 'El Mundo' - was anticipated by Alejandro Agag, president of Formula E ("rest in peace my friend, thank you for bringing me into the world of racing", he wrote on Instagram), and confirmed, a few minutes later, by Campos Racing, the team with which he had competed in the F2 World Championship since 2017.
"Today is the saddest day in the history of Campos Racing - reads the team's Twitter profile - our president and founder, Adrián Campos Suñer, has left us. His heart has stopped beating, but his memory will be the engine. that will make us all struggle to continue his legacy. May he rest in peace. "
Campos' sudden death is a severe blow to the Spanish automotive world, which will always be in debt for the work of a tireless entrepreneur.
Campos raced in F1 with Minardi between 1987 and 1988 and then founded the Campos Racing team, engaged in various categories, from Formula Nissan, to Spanish F3 to GP2, including an appearance in F1 with the name of Hispania Racing F1 Team between 2010 and 2012, a team where Bruno Senna, Daniel Ricciardo, Vitantonio Liuzzi and Pedro de la Rosa raced.
