Dozens of colorful terminals have flourished around the streets of Locminé (Morbihan), near pharmacies, schools or in the city center.
Residents are invited to drop off their used disposable masks there.
The goal of the maneuver: to revalue the material to make rulers and squares for the some 2000 students in the area.
It is also the first community in the West to organize this type of collection.
"They were found everywhere on the public highway," laments Mickaël Offret, city councilor behind the project.
We said to ourselves that we had to motivate everyone to make an effort ”.
“Particular waste that must not be thrown in the yellow bins,” insists the mayor, Grégoire Super.
The city has thus developed a partnership with the Plaxtil factory in Châtellerault (Vienne), the only one in France to be able to recycle masks properly.
Symbolic and educational
“They are sent there after a week's natural decontamination,” slips Nicol, director of technical services.
They pass through Grand-Champ (Morbihan) for a disintegration operation (the removal of the iron bar) before landing in Vienne ”.
The first prototypes of recycled masks have just arrived in Locminé.
For the community, it will be an investment of 10 cents per recycled mask.
"An important, symbolic and educational gesture, both for children and adults", slips the mayor.
“And the reflection of a circular economy that we advocate”.
Companies in the region are also starting to get closer to their approach.
