(ANSA) - FLORENCE, 29 JAN - Transforming reinforced concrete architecture into works of art was his mission as a designer and now in Florence an anthological exhibition exemplifies in 12 sections - each focused on an iconic creation - the activity of the engineer Pier Luigi Nervi (1891-1979).
His creative process is deepened with models, copies of original drawings, construction site and current photos in the exhibition inaugurated at the former Manifattura Tabacchi, also a work by Nervi, with the title 'Pier Luigi Nervi and Florence, the structure of beauty'.
The review explores, among the projects, that of the 'Berta' municipal stadium in Florence (the current ArtemioFranchi stadium), the Augusteo theater in Naples, the Unesco headquarters in Paris, the Vatican audience hall, the Torredella Borsa di Montreal (Canada) and the seat of the Italian embassy in Brasilia.
The exhibition, with free admission, is open from Monday to Friday from 10 to 17. "The exhibition was inaugurated today with great delay due to Covid - explained the superintendent Andrea Pessina -. It is clear that the story of the stadium in Florence was born in filigree . When the most heated debate on the stadium began, together with the 'Pier Luigi Nervi Association', we decided to make this incredible figure better known. We can explain to Florentines why Nervi is important and why the stadium is fundamental within his production ".
ElisabettaMargiotta Nervi, general secretary of the Pier Luigi NerviAssociation, hopes that "many Florentines will also want to share it in order to better understand the precious architecture they have in the city and finally be able to see the value of the Franchi stadium".
