The United Nations Technology Envoy, Fabrizio Hochschild Drummond, has accused several women of harassment.
Hochschild has now been released from his duties at the UN.
UN Secretary General António Guterres takes "all allegations of bullying, abuse of power, discrimination and sexual harassment very seriously," said UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric on Thursday.
The Chilean Hochschild has been suspended pending an investigation into the allegations against him.
Dujarric did not comment on the specific allegations against Hochschild.
He said Guterres would "act swiftly and draw appropriate conclusions" as soon as there is definitive knowledge of Hochschild's alleged wrongdoing.
The news magazine "PassBlue", which specializes in UN issues, first reported on the allegations against the UN envoy.
Accordingly, several employees accused Hochschild of harassment and inappropriate behavior.
The 57-year-old told “PassBlue” that he wanted to cooperate with the United Nations to clarify the allegations.
British-born Hochschild has served the United Nations for decades.
He held posts in Sudan, Bosnia, Geneva, New York and Israel, among others, before being named special envoy for technological affairs last week.
