In Göttingen, four bombs from the Second World War were detonated on Saturday night.
Shortly after midnight, the ordnance disposal service announced that the controlled demolition had been successful.
Then exploration teams checked the area for possible damage, as the city administration announced.
According to the initial findings, there were no injuries.
For security reasons, more than 8,000 people had to leave their homes.
A danger zone with a radius of 1000 meters was set up around the site.
The fire brigade and construction company secured the site using freight containers that were filled with 24,000 liters of water.
In addition to several streets, the Göttingen train station was also closed.

According to the "Hessisch Niedersächsische Allgemeine", the closure of the evacuation area was lifted shortly after three o'clock in the morning.
The residents were then able to return to their homes.
In three houses, however, greater damage was found.
The residents of these houses were therefore called on to call the public telephone set up for the demolition.
The north-south ICE line, which is important for long-distance traffic, was affected by the blast.
As a result, national rail traffic was affected, in which there were some delays anyway on Saturday after the snowfall.
According to Deutsche Bahn, the Göttingen stop had to be canceled since Saturday afternoon.
The duds were ten hundredweight bombs with long detonators from the Second World War.
They had been found during exploratory work.
According to the city, about 1,800 helpers worked in several shifts in the evacuation and defusing
