(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 01 - Europol has asked anyone who travels in this period to pay attention to the sale in airports of false certificates of negativity to Covid by organized crime.

According to a statement from the EU police agency, the cost of such a test can reach up to 300 euros.

The warning comes after the arrest of several people who were selling fake documents in some airports in Great Britain and France, online and via group chat in Spain and the Netherlands.

"As long as travel restrictions due to the pandemic remain in place, criminals are very likely to seize the opportunity to produce and sell fake certificates," Europol's statement read. "Given the technological means available, scammers are able to produce high quality forged documents", is the warning of the EU agency.

At the end of December, the French police dismantled a round of fake certificates at Charles Airport sold at a cost of between 150 and 300 euros. Ten days ago, a man was arrested at Luton Airport in Britain on suspicion of selling counterfeit negative tests. In Spain, police arrested a man who was selling fake IDs online for 40 euros online.
