Femke, 39, was the oldest among the eight dolphins at Parc Asterix.

In Le Parisien, the amusement park announced at the end of January the closure of its dolphinarium.

Before she could even be transferred to the zoological park of Planète sauvage, near Nantes (Loire-Atlantique), Femke, suffering from Cushing's syndrome, had to be euthanized.

"While we had prepared everything for her transfer to a French dolphinarium in order to minimize transport time and therefore the risks, we were forced to make the sad and very difficult choice to relieve Femke of her suffering", explains Parc Astérix , located in Plailly (Oise), in a press release.

“Death is sweeter than anything she has experienced since her capture, reacted Muriel Arnal, president of One Voice, an association for the defense of animals.

Knowing that humans are capable of inflicting on dolphins the atrocity of captivity and training, knowingly, words fail to express our indignation.

The association intends to request the autopsy report of the dolphin.

“All the light must be shed on his last moments among us”, justifies the association.

The other seven dolphins in Parc Asterix have all been evacuated from the amusement park's dolphinarium, the park announced in the same press release.

Two were sent to Sweden, five were sent to Spain, three to Benidorm and two to Valencia.
