According to the secretary general of the CFDT, Laurent Berger, the government must do more to support the incomes of young people.

The CFDT defends the idea of RSA Jeunes.

Its secretary general, Laurent Berger, repeated it this Monday on France 2. “

We need increased measures, we are not doing enough, especially on the issue of income.

”he explained.

The idea of RSA Jeunes, supported by the Greens and the left, consists of extending the RSA to unemployed 18-25 year olds in order to help them cope with precariousness, aggravated by the Covid-19 crisis.

A PS bill had been tabled in this direction but the right-wing majority Senate rejected it last Wednesday.

The government is also opposed to this measure.

"

At 18, you want a job, not an allowance

", argued the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire.

Extend the Youth Guarantee

The government rather defends the idea of generalization of the paid support of the Youth Guarantee, preferable according to it to an extension of the RSA to under 25 years because more focused on integration.

The Youth Guarantee offers a monthly allowance (for a maximum amount of 497 euros) and intensive support, individual and collective, on a local mission for one year to young people aged 16 to 25 who are "

neither in employment nor in studies or in training

”and in a situation of financial insecurity.

A recent report from the Youth Policy Orientation Council made recommendations aimed at reviewing the conditions of resources and removing the criterion "

without employment, neither studies, nor training

" which excludes for example employees occupying "

food jobs

" on very short contracts.

He also suggested not to limit the duration to one year, too short to access housing, and not to focus support solely on employment in order to reach people who have other difficulties, such as non-minors. accompanied.

Élisabeth Borne said she was in favor of this improved version of the Youth Guarantee.

"

It is already a track that must be digged quickly

", warned Laurent Berger.

Young people are now being hit hard by the coronavirus epidemic which has, among other things, isolated them and deprived them of odd jobs.

Many voices are raised to ask the government for rapid and concrete measures to prevent the rise in precariousness and psycho-social risks.
