Giving
priority to the research and management of contacts of suspected cases COVID-19 / confirmed by variation
and promptly identify both the high-risk contact (close contact) that those at low risk.
This is what
the new circular of the Ministry
of Health
foresees
on the diffusion of
SarsCov2
variants
.
It is also indicated to perform a molecular test on contacts (high and low risk) as soon as possible after identification and on the 14th day of quarantine, for a further contact tracing, "considering the greater transmissibility of the variants", and to "do not stop quarantine on the tenth day".
According to the WHO, the emergence of new variants of SarsCov2 "underlines the importance for anyone, including those who have had the infection or who have been vaccinated, to
strictly adhere to health and socio-behavioral control measures"
, indicates the new circular of the ministry.
Furthermore, it states, the European Center for Disease Control Ecdc considers "very high" the probability of the introduction and diffusion in the community in the EU countries of the variants and in particular of the 'English' one and the impact of the introduction in the community of the variants in the EU it is considered "high".
Ecdc asks for 500 tests per week for variants - The European Center for Disease Control ECDC, for the purpose of monitoring the variants of the SasrCov2 virus, recommends sequencing "at least about 500 randomly selected samples every week at national level" following priorities, to starting with "individuals vaccinated against SarsCov2 who subsequently become infected despite an immune response to the vaccine".
Viral isolation of SarsCov2 variants "must be carried out in P3 laboratories (biosafety level 3) to prevent the accidental spread of a variant through exposure in the laboratory" and laboratories must increase the sequencing capacity "by exploiting full capacity of sequencing possible from clinical, diagnostic, academic and commercial laboratories ".
'South Africa variant' alarm in the United Kingdom
(already struggling with the aggressiveness of the so-called English variant of Covid), where 2 cases of contagion with the mutation first identified in the African country, but without links to travel or confirmed contacts with people from from abroad, they were discovered in Surrey, southern England.
Specific carpet pads were immediately placed in the same county and in the surrounding areas (London, Kent, Hertfordshire, Walsall).
Prime Minister Boris Johnson, from Yorkshire, however, reassured the vaccine efficacy signals "on all variants" according to the latest data.
