In Ergolding, Lower Bavaria, a senior attacked a 57-year-old with a samurai sword.
According to the police, the attack on Monday morning was apparently preceded by an argument between the men that had simmered for a long time.
Accordingly, the 57-year-old fled initially.
The 70-year-old chased him and hit his victim several times with his sword, it said.
Alleged attacker was arrested without resistance
The victim was unharmed despite the blows.
The attacker was arrested a short time later by a police patrol.
The officials had threatened the use of the firearm, and the 70-year-old was taken into custody without resistance and unharmed.
The public prosecutor's office and the criminal police launched an investigation into attempted murder.
The alleged attacker is to be brought before a judge on Tuesday.
