Coronavirus: the Sputnik vaccine for Moria Casán and the imbalances in the distribution of doses in the country

While the City could only vaccinate 24,000 of its 154,000 doctors for now, the Province is already making progress with those over 70, vaccinating psychologists and teachers and even offering doses to popular references.

The distribution of the

Sputnik V vaccine

, validated this Tuesday by The Lancet magazine and the only one against the coronavirus available for now in Argentina, was thought based on the

total population

of each province.

But that number is not proportional to the number of doctors that each district has.

That caused some

imbalances

.

Among them, the possibility of the Buenos Aires government to offer the vaccine to Moria Casán is just a sample.

Clarín

reported at the end of December on the potential problem that could arise from the

"Sputnik coparticipation", when distribution was just beginning.

The National Vaccination Plan has a series of priorities.

In the first place are the health personnel;

in the second, those over 70 years of age.

This sequence has a total of seven levels, which also includes those over 60, security personnel, those under 60 with pre-existing diseases, teachers and, finally, other strategic groups.

This Monday there was a great stir on social networks because, in a context of

lack of vaccines

, Moria Casán revealed that next Friday he would receive the first dose.

The actress meets two requirements: she is over 70 years old and, according to the gaze of the Province, her image serves to

raise awareness

in the population that it is necessary to be vaccinated.

When

Clarín

asked for details about the initiative, from La Plata there were two different responses.

On the side of the Interior, they preferred not to make statements.

On the Health side they were surprised: "That idea of vaccinating 100 cultural references

had fallen

when fewer doses came," they said.

Within the shortage, the district governed by Axel Kicillof was able to access a greater proportion of Sputnik V, based on the distribution criteria decided by the national government.

The amount of vaccines that the Province received was enough, in principle, to vaccinate

85 percent

of its doctors.

Moria Casán said that she was summoned to receive the Russian vaccine next Friday.

The contrast with the Buenos Aires reality was strong: the 24 thousand doses received by Horacio Rodríguez Larreta only allowed him to cover, according to official census data,

30 percent

of his doctors and nurses.

Although sources from the City assure that the lag is greater and that there are still 130 thousand public and private medical professionals without vaccines.

The Buenos Aires reality is different: they have already announced the start of vaccination for those

over 70 years of age

and that they would begin to inoculate

teachers

with risk factors.

This last piece of information is key: a more cordial treatment with the unions may depend on the immunization of teachers when it comes to defining the return to

face-to-face classes.

The relative “slack” in Buenos Aires with the available vaccines was also reflected in the call that the

College of Psychologists of the Province of Buenos Aires

made in mid-January

to its professionals so that they could be vaccinated, even if they did not have underlying diseases or were in the first line of battle against the coronavirus.

Clarín wanted to know what the professionals' response had been, but there was no response from the entity.

The launch of vaccination for those over 70 in the Province, at the Spanish Hospital “Hogar Elías Romero”.

These differences between the two most important districts of the country when it comes to the distribution of vaccines contrast with the criteria that the national government maintained during the

hardest

quarantine

stage

, when the City could not dissociate itself from the protocols established for the AMBA, even at the time when epidemiological realities differed.

That tandem is now broken.

The imbalances and unilateral decisions from the provinces in the way that give priority to vaccines reached the Ministry of Health of the Nation, according to

Clarín

.

The top of the portfolio met there and the

priorities

set by the National Vaccination Plan

were ratified

.

In other words, the decision remains that before moving on to the next stage, all doctors in the country are immunized.

This goal is difficult when analyzing

province by province

: those who received a higher percentage of vaccines than the doctors they have are, in addition to the Buenos Aires case, Catamarca, Córdoba, Corrientes, Entre Ríos, Formosa, La Pampa, La Rioja, Misiones, San Juan, San Luis, Santa Cruz, Santa Fe, Santiago del Estero and Tucumán.

On the side of the losers, in addition to the City of Buenos Aires, appear Chubut, Jujuy, Neuquén, Mendoza, Río Negro, Salta and Tierra del Fuego.

The greater vaccination power of some districts over others, based on the criteria set by the Nation, would now have some

correction

from the distribution of the new batch of

220,000

Sputnik V

vaccines

that arrived in the country at the end of January, half of the first dose and half of the second.

In other words, they will be enough to vaccinate 100,000 people.

This adjustment would be related, this time yes, to the

priority risk groups

, instead of continuing to insist on the distribution based on the number of inhabitants per district, a data the latter that will become relevant only when the universe to be immunized no longer whether they are doctors or teachers, but the population in general.
