It's just before nine o'clock in Seattle, and Ijeoma Oluo is sitting in one of the two rooms that didn't burn down.

A few weeks ago there was a fire in the house where she lives with her two sons.

To date, it is unclear what caused it.

It is said not to have been arson, although Ijeoma Oluo regularly receives threats, but more on that later.

In the summer, in the weeks after George Floyd suffocated under the knee of policeman Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis, Oluo's book So You Want to Talk About Race became something like the non-fiction of the Black Lives Matter movement: the Rhymes by Kendrick Lamar in my ear, Ijeoma Oluo's book in my pocket, which, despite being more than two years old, made the New York Times bestseller list again.

Well, a few days after the Capitol storm, Oluo has to talk to a white man for an hour, which normally wouldn't be a problem.

However, Oluo has just published her second book, and it's titled Mediocre.

The Dangerous Legacy of White Male America ".
