After heavy snowfall in New York and parts of the northeastern United States, emergency services are fighting against the snow masses.
The cleanup work continued, the emergency management of the US metropolis announced on Twitter.
Anyone who has to leave the house should be careful and plan additional time for the way, it said in an appeal to the residents.
The schools and many public buildings remained closed on Tuesday, and dates for corona vaccinations were largely postponed.
The New York subway was limited and delayed.
"This is a serious situation," Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Monday.
And: "It is a dangerous, life-threatening situation." According to the weather authority, up to half a meter of snow fell in places in the city and the surrounding area by Monday evening (local time).
Accordingly, about 53 centimeters were registered in the New York suburb of Spring Valley.
Central Park in Manhattan was covered by a white layer more than 40 centimeters thick, as the New York Times reported, citing authorities.
The largest amount of snow was recorded by Monday evening with around 76 centimeters in Mendham, New Jersey.
According to the weather agency, the snowfall in the northeastern United States should not subside until Thursday.
