(ANSA) - MEXICO CITY, 02 FEB - The Federal Commission for the protection against health risks (Cofepris) of Mexico yesterday approved the emergency use of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine. This was reported by the TV 'all news' Milenio, specifying that it is of the third immunizing drug authorized by the Mexican authorities.
The Undersecretary of Health, Hugo López-Gatell, declared in this regard that "Cofepris has just granted the authorization for emergency use of the Sputnik V of the Russian Gamaleya laboratory, so there is the possibility of importing and using this vaccine".
The manager added that the authorization was granted to the Birmex company which has a legal agreement to represent the Russian government.
"The federal government - he continued - intends to purchase between seven and 12 million doses, of which 400,000 will arrive in Mexico this month and will be used to vaccinate the older sections of the population".
For his part, the Foreign Minister, Marcelo Ebrard, has indicated that the government plans to receive between January and March 21,394,650 doses of Pfizer, AstraZeneca, CanSino and Sputnik V. (ANSA) vaccines.
