In one of its two sites in Seine-Maritime, the northern family business Baudelet Environnement deconstructed on behalf of the SNCF

Trains park on a 2.5 km long railway line in Grémonville, between Dieppe and Rouen (Seine-Maritime).

On an old 15-hectare platform that was used for the construction of the A150, the trains are awaiting deconstruction by Baudelet Environnement, which won this contract over ten years, before leaving to be recycled.

For fifty-six years, the northern company has promoted “80% of the industries of hazardous and non-hazardous materials that are reintroduced into different circuits in order to reduce the environmental impact”, presents Caroline Poissonnier, the general manager and small- daughter of the founder, Jean Baudelet, in 1964.

The oars are laid bare before asbestos removal.

Of the 11 Baudelet Environnement sites in the northern part of France, the 3 Normandy sites each have their own specialty.

In Fécamp, we treat the waste of individuals, in Le Havre, we proceed to the dismantling of ships, including soon 8 frigates of the French Navy, and in Grémonville, we transform plastics into granules, we recover metals and polluting products and we have a sorting chain by sieve and manual.

It is here, to qualify with the SNCF, that test sites were carried out on the deconstruction of TGV and RIO (Rames Inox Omnibus).

Two motor coaches and 18 trains per month

“We had to show that we are a serious company with know-how.

We had to prove that we could keep up to high production rates over ten years ”, explains Arnaud Tual, site manager in Normandy.

Agreement validated, the company will receive each month from all of France 2 motor vehicles and 8 TGV cars as well as 10 TER or Corail wagons.

The recovered metals will go up the Seine to foundries.

This market required 16 million euros of investment, in particular in 4 clean rooms for asbestos removal, and the long-term hiring of 25 people "in partnership with Pôle Emploi thanks to an

Operation without CV

When a train enters the site, the technicians first operate "green cleaning," explains Arnaud Tual.

We remove all the interior fittings that go to other companies.

We stop at the rock wool insulation.

For the windows, we store them, because we have a partnership with a design firm.

They turn them into objects or furniture.

The whole thing is manual work that takes a lot of time ”.

98% of recycled materials

Once bare, the oar enters the clean room for total disinfection.

It comes out to pass between the teeth of the crusher and up to the bogies, “to avoid re-use.

We have to prove the cut to the customer ”.

Sorted, the metals leave for Le Havre where they are packaged and loaded onto barges.

They then go up the Seine "to go to the appropriate sectors including the foundries of Bonnières in Yvelines and Montereau-Fault-Yonne, in Seine-et-Marne", indicates the director of sites in Normandy.

In the end, designed with simple materials, “a train is 98% recycled!
