Find out here which checks are pending in the first to third trimester.

  • Pregnancy check-ups are standardized in Germany in the maternity guidelines.

  • In addition, there are voluntary examinations that you pay for yourself.

  • Preventive examinations take place every trimester, a total of

    around ten appointments are

    planned.

It starts with a positive pregnancy test: From now on, the mum-to-be will worry a lot about whether the baby is doing well in her stomach.

Not only them - the gynecologist also makes regular preventive examinations to

ensure that everything is in order with the child and that the pregnant woman's body can cope with the changes

.

At the beginning of a preventive examination, the pregnant woman is weighed and her blood pressure * is measured.

The urine is checked regularly for bacteria, protein and sugar content.

The blood is checked for its hemoglobin content to prevent iron deficiency.

Then it's the baby's turn.

A total of about ten examinations take place in the three trimesters

:

The first trimester of pregnancy (5th to 12th week)

Most women determine that they are pregnant in the fourth or fifth week by missing their period.

During the first screening up to the eighth week, various tests are carried out on the mum-to-be.

At the end she receives her mother's passport, which accompanies her until her baby is born.

These are the checks up to the 12th week, as reported by the Milupa portal:

  • Initial examination (5th to 8th week):

Confirmation of pregnancy, calculation of the week of pregnancy and the date of birth, various tests (e.g. antibodies, blood group determination, toxoplasmosis, etc.), issue of maternity card

  • 1. Preventive medical check-up (9th-12th week):

Among other things: Weight control, vaginal examination, urine test for protein, sugar and pathogens, measuring hemoglobin content

  • 1. Ultrasound examination:

Among other things, the following are examined: size of the fetus, position of the child and heartbeat of the child, examination of the placenta, age-appropriate development of the child

  • Neck fold measurement (11th-13th week):

This examination is not part of the routine examinations.

It is discussed with the doctor and not billed as a health insurance benefit.

The second trimester of pregnancy (13th to 24th week)

During this phase, the baby's heart sounds and organs are checked regularly.

These are the checks up to the 24th week:

  • 2. Preventive medical check-up (13th-16th week):

    This

    check-up

includes weight control, vaginal examination, blood pressure measurement, urine and blood tests.

  • 3. Preventive medical check-up (17th to 20th week):

This preventive medical check-up includes regular checks from weight control to urine tests and hemoglobin levels in the blood.

If you have a high-risk pregnancy, your doctor may discuss an amniotic fluid test.

  • 2. Ultrasound examination (19th-22nd week):

Among other things, the placenta, the age-appropriate development of the child, the development of the organs, the size of the abdomen and head are checked.

  • 4. Preventive medical check-up (21st to 24th week):

In addition to the routine check-ups, a glucose tolerance test can be carried out during this preventive care if gestational diabetes is suspected.

Even if mom is almost a pro when it comes to prevention: the excitement gets bigger because after each examination, the birth is approaching!

These are the check-ups in the third trimester:

  • 5. Preventive medical check-up (25.-28.):

In addition to weight control, blood pressure measurement and a urine test, a sugar load test is carried out to rule out gestational diabetes.

The doctor will also do blood tests for hepatitis, as the hepatitis B virus can be transmitted to the baby.

  • 6. Preventive medical check-up (29th-32nd week):

At this appointment, a CTG can be added to the routine

    preventive care

for the first time, during which the child's heart rate is checked.

  • 3. Ultrasound examination 29.-32.

    Week:

The doctor will check the child's development, head size and heartbeat.

The amount of amniotic fluid is also checked.

  • 7. Preventive medical check-up (32nd-33rd week):

At this appointment, contraceptive recorders and CTG are used for the first time.

  • 8. Preventive medical check-up (34th-35th week):

    In addition to routine

    preventive care

for pregnant women, there are again contraceptive recorders and the CTG.

The position of the baby's head will be checked, placental function will be checked.

A B-streptococcus test may be done for a fee.

  • 9. Preventive medical check-up (36th-37th week):

Weight control, blood pressure measurement, vaginal examination, contraceptive chart and CTG.

During this examination, the location and growth of the uterus and the cervix are also checked.

  • 10. Preventive medical check-up (39th-40th week):

Final spurt: weight, blood pressure and urine test, vaginal examination, contractions recorder and CTG, cervix.

If the calculated due date is exceeded, the pregnant woman should go to the gynecologist or midwife every two days.

These check whether everything is OK.
