Early career start: Luca Yupanqui made her musical debut before she was born - through movements in the womb. The sound is a bit reminiscent of whale songs.

In »Sex Revolts«, the classic study on sex, gender and rebellion in rock music that was recently published in German for the first time, Simon Reynolds and Joy Press work out a relationship between psychedelic music and a psychoanalytically declared longing for return to the womb .

What Pink Floyd or Tim Buckley wanted to use conventional means to transform into sound while still being drug-fueled, an American couple now wants to have recorded directly from the source.

The record label Sacred Machines plans to release Luca Yupanqui's debut album on April 2nd.

It is entitled "Sounds of the Unborn" and is described by the record company as "an expression of life in its cosmic state", "before the mind, before the speculation, before the influences, pre-human".

The work is "the first album that a person has created while they were still in the womb", it expresses a soul that "has not yet seen daylight, has not yet breathed any air."

How is that supposed to have been possible?

With the help of »biosonic MIDI technology«, it is said.

A small box (coming soon for $ 200 in black or white) converts the vibrations picked up from the mother's belly into synthesizer sounds.

A comparable method has already been tested on plants, the electrical signals of which devices are supposed to convert into sound.

Did Baby Luca recognize the sounds?

The parents of the debutante from the womb are both active in the musical environment: Mother Elizabeth Hart played bass in various New York bands such as Effi Briest and Psychic Ills.

Father Iván Diaz Mathé worked with various Argentine bands, but also with the dub reggae grandmaster Lee “Scratch” Perry - on the EP “Life of Plants” from 2019 of all things. The independent label Sacred Machines, on the other hand, is used to ambitious ones to work on artistic projects, including musical works by film directors David Lynch and John Carpenter.

The parents Elizabeth and Iván sat down for five one-hour meditation sessions during their pregnancy.

From the sounds recorded in their course, the couple edited the tracks and mixed them together for the album.

Baby Luca, who has now been born, is said to have taken a strong part in this process: "She opened her eyes wide and stared at her parents," says the label's press release: "Apparently she recognized and felt her own noises from her womb put yourself back in the common rituals that brought the family together. "

And how does that sound to bystanders?

Well, so far only a preliminary track has been published, with an astonishingly technological title for a process described as intuitive: »V4.3 pt. 2«.

The result is somewhat reminiscent of the recordings of whale songs that sounded in numerous bar toilets in the noughties.

It's psychedelic music, the uniformity of which can develop a kind of trance effect - suddenly interrupted by a kind of rumble: Did the mother move?

The father cleared his throat?

Or boxed the baby?

A promising debut in any case, one can look forward to the further musical career.
