(ANSA) - LONDON, FEBRUARY 04 - The deaths of Covid surveyed in the last 24 hours in the United Kingdom are back below 1000 (915 to be exact, about 400 less than yesterday), while the new infections stand at 20,634, but on an absolute record of daily buffers which spikes to almost 802,000.
This was revealed by official government data released today, while the increase in hospital admissions continues to decline as a result of the lockdown and draconian restrictions introduced in response to the aggressive 'English variant' of the virus.
Yesterday, Boris Johnson's chief medical advisor to the government, Professor Chris Whitty, confirmed that the country - which in the meantime has risen to a total of 110,000 deaths due to Covid (European peak in absolute numbers and now second only to Belgium in relation to population) - has passed the peak of this latest wave of the pandemic, confirming however that the spread of the infection is still too high to be able to assess a relaxation of the precautions in place.
Meanwhile, the vaccination campaign, launched earlier than in the other Western states, has brought the total number of people given the first dose to the island to almost 10.5 million, with just over 501,000 calls.
