The spread of this version of the coronavirus in the population is increasing by around 60% every week.

This is one of the new threats at the start of the year regarding Covid-19.

What place do variants occupy among people who test positive for the disease?

The question is all the more important as their contagiousness would be higher than that of the original virus.

Questions also emerge about their possible resistance to available vaccines pending adaptation, if at all possible.

Only 3% at the start of January

Asked about BFMTV, Professor Bruno Lina, member of the scientific council, explains that their circulation is increasing in France, without being "explosive".

According to him, the partial results of a survey conducted on January 26 and 27 show that 14% of them circulate in the country.

Full results should be known at the end of the day.

Covid-19 screening: how do you know if you are infected with a variant?

The English variant is in any case increasing its presence among French people sick with Covid-19 by around 60% per week.

It represented a little more than 3% of cases in early January.

The situation varies depending on the region.

In Ile-de-France for example, the percentage of contaminated patients suffering from the so-called British variant would be greater than the 14% on average.

The spread of variants is one of the reasons for concern in the hospital sector, which fears that they will precipitate their saturation.
