Covid-19 in France: 360 deaths and 23,448 contaminations in 24 hours

The latest figures from the health authorities show that the epidemic continues to circulate strongly in the country.


Jean Castex detailed this Thursday evening the health strategy of the executive for the coming weeks.

If the government is trying to avoid re-containment, it is because the figures from the health authorities illustrate day after day the famous plateau, high but stable, which characterizes the circulation of the virus in our country.

This Thursday evening, Public Health France announced that 360 people have lost their lives in hospital as a result of the disease in the country in the past 24 hours.

358 deaths had been recorded on Wednesday, and 348 just seven days ago.

In total, 77,952 people have died from Covid-19 in hospitals and retirement homes in France since the appearance of the new coronavirus.

3,240 patients in intensive care

At the hospital, still, 27,766 additional patients were admitted Thursday in French establishments, against 27,953 Wednesday and 28,029 Tuesday.

Of this total, 3,240 patients have developed a severe form of the disease which requires treatment in intensive care units (3,267 Wednesday).

As for contaminations, the health authorities announced Thursday evening that 23,448 new contaminations with the new coronavirus were recorded in 24 hours.

The day before, 26,362 new cases had been reported over the same period.

A week ago, January 28, 23,770 cases in 24 hours were counted.

Faced with the progression of Covid-19, and the threat of more contagious variants, the vaccination campaign is continuing.

1,766,818 French people have received a dose of the vaccine since December 26, 2020, the Directorate General of Health said on Thursday.

189,159 people received the second dose and are definitively vaccinated.
