Sputnik V was already approved in Russia when it had not yet passed all clinical tests.

A study sheds light on how effective vaccination protects against corona.

  • Sputnik V is the world's first approved corona vaccine: On August 11, 2020, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the emergency approval of the preparation in the media.

  • Emergency approval because the vaccine developed and produced in Russia has not yet completed clinical phase III *.

In this, several thousand to tens of thousands of volunteers are vaccinated in order to find out how effective and tolerable a vaccination actually is.

  • Sputnik V is currently being tested in clinical phase III.

Russian scientists have now published an interim analysis.

Sputnik V is not only vaccinated in Russia.

According to

the

world

,

the Russian vaccine

is already being used

in 15 countries

- although it has not yet proven itself in all clinical tests.

In Germany, too, the discussion is getting louder about allowing more vaccines in order to enable citizens to have earlier vaccination appointments.

However, there are strict rules in the European Union as to when a vaccine may be vaccinated.

A product can only be approved for the general public after phase III has been successfully completed.

This phase has not yet been completed in the case of the Sputnik V vector vaccine, but there are initial reports of the product's effectiveness in phase III.

In the journal

The Lancet

, Russian scientists came

to the conclusion that Sputnik V was 91.6 percent effective.

The researchers had tested 20,000 volunteers to see how well the vaccination protects against corona and what side effects can occur.

Sputnik V 91.6 percent effective, Biontech and Moderna vaccinations 95 and 96 percent

With 91.6 percent effectiveness, Sputnik V is at the level of effectiveness that was also shown with the Biontech and Moderna preparations.

The

Biontech preparation was proven to be up to 95 percent effective and the Moderna vaccine to be 96 percent effective

, as reported by the Tagesschau, citing the US FDA.

What is meant by these numbers is that, depending on the preparation,

91.6, 95 or 96 percent fewer corona diseases per 100 study participants

occurred

in people in the vaccinated group

than in the non-vaccinated group.

Researchers from the National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, which is based at the Russian Ministry of Health

, also report serious side effects in only a few cases, according to

the

world

.

However, these were not due to the vaccination, it said

.

In most cases, the volunteers reported only mild side effects such as flu-like symptoms after vaccination.

In addition

, the study published

in the

Lancet

states

: "

Four deaths were reported during the study (three of 16,427 participants in the vaccine group and one of 5,435 participants in the placebo group)

, none of which were considered to be vaccine-related".

The study has not yet been completed,

according

to the

world

report

, a total of

40,000 volunteers will be vaccinated.
