"Once Upon a Time" Candy Store, Herzliya (Niv Aharonson)

You'll have to believe us when we say it's not an easy job, not an easy one at all.

To experience all the new products that come out of the Israeli market (and sometimes even outside it), to taste before everyone else, deliveries and more deliveries, paper bags that accumulate in the office (and at home), a constant feeling of satiety.

Seriously, it's harder than it looks, and no one pays you for the gym, or compensates you for the rapidly evolving sense of FOMO in the mind.

However, a "new on the shelf" section, with its tasters, curiosities and loyal consumers, has set out again.

And this time - vanilla wild entrees that are not afraid of anyone, borax that made us miss Istanbul less, a round of rolls and also cheeses that surprised our toughest vegan taster.

Yes, we are very eclectic.

enjoy your meal!

Winter cheese collection, nature delicacies

In the middle between "very tasty" and "not tasty at all" there is also "edible" on the taste scale.

This is perhaps the saddest word that can be said about food.

Try once to tell Mom or Dad that the meal they prepared for you was "eating."

Unfortunately for the vegan community, they are often forced to settle for animal protein substitutes that receive "edible" criticism, with the simple understanding that the decision to switch to veganism may have been morally or healthily correct, but has a price (when it comes to taste at least).

There are many brands that sell "vegan hamburgers", there are already quite a few "vegan cheeses" on the shelves in the supermarket.

These are usually processed products that because they try to mimic the original taste, they forget that the product should be not only "edible", but also delicious.

And there are those who choose differently.

"Natural delicacies" are currently a gem of quality and meticulousness within the world of vegan substitutes, mainly because it is not a substitute at all.

These are not imitations of dairy cheeses, but nut spreads that are utterly worthy of the title "cheese" (by the very act of cheese-making in probiotic bacteria) even without even containing a lactose reminder.

We sampled a number of such cheeses.

There was a semi-hard cheese made from pistachios with the addition of balsamic vinegar that looked great, and melted on the tongue in the sweetness of a rich, fatty cake.

We also got baked almond cheese, also with a surprising cake texture, with a crispy and flavorful crust.

In the semi-hard wing also waited the smoked hickory cheese, which simply sent our sense of taste on a nostalgic journey to the smoked cheeses that landed in supermarkets in the early 90s along with the Russian aliyah.

For the most part, we almost forgot it was made from cashews and not milk.

But the real winners were actually the soft cheeses, which we have already tasted a lot but not at this level.

The whitening was meticulous, with a perfect ratio of sourness, hyssop and olive oil that felt better quality than any purchased product.

The cashew cheese with the addition of the shifka pieces managed to add pepper (literally) to each bite, without sacrificing a meticulous texture - and above all it was the garlic-dill cheese.

Supposedly, the simplest of the cheeses we got, which is supposedly the same in every grocery store, but there is no room for comparison at all.

Apparently, as soon as I finished licking my fingers I went to the "Nature Delicacies" website and ordered more.

Chongo popcorn, good chicken

Chicken Tov Chicken Popcorn (Photo: PR, Chicken Tov Studio)

The "Good Chicken" company is expanding its popular series with "Chongo Popcorn", mini schnitzel snacks with a classic coating and a particularly juicy and crispy spicy coating, made from a whole slice, without antibiotics.

Launched a few months ago in a configuration of juicy and crispy schnitzel strips, the series is now expanding on the shelf and "shrinking" in bite, with smaller snacks, ideal for one bite, and much more crunchy due to their shape and size.

Aside from the crunch, the defeat itself manages to maintain juiciness and preserve the content-chicken worlds it comes from, when the classic coating is indeed classic, and the spicy one is not too riotous.

This is a lunch snack with a little more nutritional responsibility, or a whole meal for the kids, that just needs a side dish.

PURE FRESH gum in a box, Mentos

The "Mentos" brand launches the PURE FRESH gum in a box with three fruit flavors - strawberry, watermelon and tropical.

The new series declares high-quality, sugar-free chewing gums that retain their freshness and taste over time.

In practice these statements are not far from reality.

The chewing gums do feel good in the mouth, do not "disappear" after a few chews and provide exactly the amount of freshness required of them.

The strawberry is a little too sweet for our taste, the tropical a little better, and the watermelon was the most successful of all.

Maybe it's just the longing for summer.

Borax Pilas, delicacies

Delicacy Borax Pilas (Photo: PR, Delicacies)

Delicacies is launching a series of borax snacks made from Pilas dough with cheese filling and potato filling.

The frozen pastry giant did not move too far from its mother base, and went for a Mediterranean version of the beloved borax.

True, this is not an authentic stall in the Istanbul market, but the home result is satisfying and somehow manages to contain the longing.

The thin dough sheets are relatively elegant for the genre, the crispiness is there and the content is definitely delicious.

We made a whole meal out of it, with quite a few vegetables and eggs and spreads, and at least that evening we did not want to go directly to Ben Gurion Airport.

Mini Grissini and MCT Oil, Quito Chef

Mini Grissini and MCT Oil by Quito Chef (Photo: PR, Quito Chef)

KETO CHEF from Matzah Aviv launches new products in the ketogenic product series - Mini Grissini and MCT oil.

The snack, based on almond flour (9 grams of carbohydrates per 100 grams) tries to provide crispiness and flavor, but only succeeds in the latter and slightly fails in the former, with a texture that should be more crunchy if aimed at Grissini.

The oil, with medium fatty acids, marketed as one suitable for frying, baking and seasoning, managed to maintain a balanced taste and did not take over the omelet we prepared for dinner, or the salad we prepared next to it.

The other benefits - fats that the body can utilize to produce energy that are broken down in the body more efficiently than their counterparts - are already the subject of another discussion, involving the strengths of the ketogenic diet, but also its challenges.

Those in the matter of a low carb and high fat diet will find here another solution and not a bad one for some of the things that have been avoided so far.

Strawberry circles, barn

Barn strawberry circles (Photo: PR, Barn Studio)

A barn shakes the mythological world of legumes with a transformation into the strawberry version - circles instead of a cylinder.

The brand, which even those who are less connected to can appreciate its stability, did not go for too drastic a change here, but still changed concept - instead of a roll with presence, a smaller round snack, a crunchy mini-bite that does not give up the strawberry flavor from childhood.

At the moment it is not clear whether the edition, which is aimed at Purim in its characteristics, is with us to stay, but it does raise expectations and is intriguing, probably in everything related to the possibilities inherent in refreshing the feet.

Pintroll lentils

One of the most well-known brands in the world is making a dramatic increase in delay and is showing a presence in a market that until now has known mainly M&M and some local competitors.

The announcement - candy that can not stop snacking, without artificial food colors, gluten-free, and made from quality milk chocolate - stood in the build-up.

This is not, of course, a new line, but a package that, once opened, has only one possible fate - elimination.

The chocolate does feel relatively good, the size provides an alibi-snack to the conscience of the parents and in general it is always fun to occasionally remember the carefree days of childhood.

Biscuits, crackers and pretzels, the source of spelled

Wild sprigs of spelled source (Photo: PR, spelled source)

The distribution and marketing company Guri recently added the "source of spelled" products to its product collection, and now offers pretzel flours, pastas, crackers, wild berries and flakes.

The brand declares access to wheat substitutes for Israelis through healthier, higher quality food and at prices for every pocket.

We experimented with crackers that were crispy and fun, on their own or with a spread, with vanilla-flavored wild berries that did the job right next to the winter tea, and also with a spelled pretzel that did not exhibit feelings of inferiority in front of its shelf friends.

A good option for replacement seekers and also for those who want to enter this world in small steps.
