Feminine questions in "The bold Type"

AMAZON PRIME VIDEO.

The feminine and feminist series about three young women in New York is finally back.

Once again, she takes up topical issues to spice up the lives of her heroines, two of whom are still employed by the women's magazine "Scarlet", and the third, she has just been fired and is looking for a new one. job.

Harassment at work, LGBTQ issues within the Republican Party, reconciling professional life and motherhood or the right not to want children, are all themes addressed in this season 4. We also love to follow Jacqueline's personal questioning, editor-in-chief of the magazine.

The passion of the debut of the series is a little subdued, but "The Bold Type" remains very endearing.

EDITOR'S RATING: 4/5

“The Bold Type”

, American series by Sarah Watson with Katie Stevens, Aisha Dee, Meghann Fahy… Season 4 (2020), 16 episodes of 42 minutes.

"The Sister", thriller between past and present

SALTO.

Russell Tovey (“Years and Years”, “Looking”) carries “The Sister”, a thriller that takes place over different eras.

The series is the latest creation of Neil Cross, to whom we already owe the brilliant “Luther” (available on Netflix).

On New Year's Eve between 2009 and 2010, a young woman, Elise, disappears.

Three years later, his sister Holly is still looking for him and calls for witnesses on television.

In front of his screen, Nathan Redman is taken aback and contacts her.

Later, in 2019, Nathan and Holly are married, but an old acquaintance of the former resurfaces and it seems that Nathan is linked to Elise's disappearance ... In four episodes, "The Sister" is a relentless thriller that never hesitates. not to add some paranormal elements to offer an original plot.

The central mystery grinds our brains from start to finish and we revel in the permanent tension.

Verbal duel with "Malcolm and Marie"

NETFLIX.

A unique setting, and only two characters.

Like in the theater?

Not really.

“Malcolm and Marie” is set in an isolated villa on the outskirts of Los Angeles.

His two protagonists, Marie and his companion, Malcolm, return from the preview of the new film of the second, young black filmmaker whose rating is climbing in Hollywood.

The session seems to have gone very well, they are just waiting for feedback from influential American critics who were invited to it.

But quickly, the spirits heat up: their sometimes very muscular dialogue, interspersed with short reconciliations, will last until the early hours of the morning ... Shot in a sumptuous black and white with daring framing which sublimates the two actors, "Malcolm and Marie" doesn't turn out for a second boring.

Exciting, touching, moving, the spat is also remarkably interpreted by Zendaya, star of the series "Euphoria", and John David Washington ("Tenet") each going from his pieces of bravery.

EDITOR'S RATING: 4/5

"Malcolm and Marie"

, American drama directed by Sam Levinson (2020), with Zendaya, John David Washington.

1h46.

Thrills at "Monsterland"

SALTO.

This new American horror anthology was broadcast across the Atlantic last October on the Hulu streaming platform.

The 8 episodes of the first season are inspired by news from an author not yet translated by us, Nathan Ballingrud.

Stories passed through the mill by Mary Laws, known for having worked on the series "Preacher" or the film "The Neon Demon".

Anchored in the grim daily reality of today's United States, this anthology (each episode tells an independent story) confronts human beings with frightful creatures, but the monsters are not always what you think!

An interesting attempt at political horror, almost as if Ken Loach were starting to do fantasy.

EDITOR'S RATING: 4/5

“Monsterland”

, an American series by Mary Laws, with Mike Colter, Taylor Schilling, Nicole Beharie… 8 x 52 minutes.

"Bliss", what world do we live in?

AMAZON PRIME VIDEO.

Employee who has just divorced and clearly at the end of the roll, Greg meets in a bar Isabel, a strange woman telling him that she and him are one of the few real beings present in this world which is in fact only a computer simulation. … Third film by the rare Mike Cahill, to whom we already owed the very strange and very successful “I origins”, in 2014, “Bliss” benefits from the presence of two strong actors, Salma Hayek, astonishing as a bum from Los Angeles creepy today, and especially Owen Wilson, who you never know if what he is experiencing is reality or a projection of his mind.

The film, long ambiguous, has the merit of choosing its camp in the last minutes, and should appeal to many fans of the last Goncourt prize, "The Anomaly".

EDITOR'S RATING: 3.5 / 5

“Bliss”

, American drama by Mike Cahill, with Salma Hayek, Owen Wilson, Nesta Cooper… 1h40.
