The International Criminal Court has ruled that it has jurisdiction over the Palestinian territories occupied by Israel

.

This step opens the way for the court attorney to launch a war crimes investigation.

The International Criminal Court "decided, by a majority, that the territorial jurisdiction of the Court over the situation in Palestine, a member state of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, extends to the territories occupied by Israel since 1967", reads a statement .

"Today it has been shown once again that the court is a political and not a judicial body", the reaction of Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu. "The Court - he said - ignores real war crimes and in its place persecutes the state of Israel with a strong democratic regime and which respects the rule of law". After recalling that Israel is not part of the court, he added that the Hague decision "goes against the right of democratic countries to defend themselves against terrorism".
