Car, 8820 tons of fresh food recovered in 2020

ROME - "In 2020, against a 40% increase in demand, the amount of fresh and very fresh food recovered almost doubled compared to 2019 through actions to combat waste and also to the generosity of operators".

This is the figure communicated by the Centro Agroalimentare Roma (Car) on the occasion of the National Day for the prevention of food waste which occurs tomorrow, February 5th.

The wholesale market, underlining that "it intends to continue to do its part", notifies that from March to December 2020 a total of 8820 tons of fruit, vegetables and fish products were redistributed to the population thanks to the association channel of the third sector who collaborate with the Car.



It is reported that the quantity was distributed to over 60 thousand people thanks to the support of the social realities of the capital.

The agri-food center also communicates that thanks to the collaboration of realities such as the diocesan Caritas of Rome, the Community of Sant'Egidio, the Acli of Rome and its province, the Banco Alimentare and the Isola Solidale association, the " Table of good practices "with the aim of systematizing all the management of food, fruit, vegetable and fish surpluses of the Car.

In particular, it is recalled that "the strength of the recovery activity comes from the" Papa Francesco "laboratory, active at the Fruit and Vegetable Market of the Car".
