(ANSA) - BRASILIA, 05 FEB - The Brazilian president, JairBolsonaro, has admitted for the first time that hydroxychloroquinol may be ineffective against the coronavirus, after having always recommended its use to patients with Covid-19.
"It may be that in the future it will be discovered that its effectiveness is zero, which is a placebo", said yesterday the head of state during a live broadcast on social media alongside Admiral Antonio Barra Neto, owner of the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) .
If its ineffectiveness is confirmed, "all right, patience: excuse me, bye, at least I didn't kill anyone," Bolsonaro continued.
In 2020, the verdeoro leader had criticized WHO for not recommending the prescription of hydroxychloroquine, a drug generally used to fight malaria, to patients with Covid-19.
When he contracted the disease in July last year, Bolsonaro claimed he recovered quickly from hydroxychloroquine, so much so that he ordered thousands of tablets from the US.
Yesterday the president, speaking with the director of Anvisa, showed more openings in relation to vaccines, despite some skepticism, but he also reiterated that he did not want to immunize.
