Football TV law: "There will be no increase in Canal + subscriptions"

2021-02-05T19:58:17.496Z

Christophe Pinard-Legry, director of marketing, commerce and customer services for the group led by Vincent Bolloré, wants to reassure subscribers.

It's Christmas after the hour for Canal + subscribers and all those who will subscribe to an offer.

This is the message that the management of the group wants to convey widely, the day after the acquisition of the rights to Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 until the end of the season, left unpaid by Mediapro and its Téléfoot channel.

Is it a real revenge for Canal +, left empty-handed from the last call for tenders in May 2018?

CHRISTOPHE PINARD-LEGRY.

Absolutely not!

But of course, we are delighted, as much for Canal + as for French football, which has suffered a lot in recent months.

We want to make the end of this season a big football party that promises to be exciting, with a maximum of editorial and commercial exposure.

The idea is to bring this competition back to light.

We have been waiting for this moment for a long time, it is up to us to make it an event from February 12th.

Concretely, what will this change for the subscribers?

We decided to offer the two most beautiful posters of each week on Canal +.

The first, Saturday at 5 p.m.

The second, Sunday at 9 p.m.

Our sport and full pack subscribers will also have access to 100% of Ligue 1. All this, without any price increase, with a subscription always starting at 20.90 euros.

It is a strong act, a gift that we give them.

We are of course expecting a lot in terms of loyalty and new arrivals.

Really, no option will pay off.

It was already a complete offer with foreign championships or even Formula 1 and MotoGP.

We are talking about an extension of only 35 million euros.

Is it the coup of the decade?

Football TV rights: "Canal + is generous in this affair", assures Xavier Couture

Maxime Saada spoke on RTL about the creation of a dedicated channel ...

We are working on it.

Afterwards, what form will it take?

We already have a digital linear channel dedicated to rugby on MyCanal.

Why not do the same with football.

Ligue 1 takes the place of the Top 14 on Sunday evening.

Will rugby fans lose out?

Not at all.

We will offer the best Saturday night poster, as well as a match early in the afternoon and another on Canal + Sport.

Saturday will be a big day devoted to rugby on our antennas.

We are also going to rethink the hours of our magazines with a “Canal Sport Club” from 6:55 pm to 7:55 pm followed by the “Canal Rugby Club” until 9 pm on Saturday.

On Sunday, the “Canal Football Club” will resume its usual schedule from 7:30 p.m. until kick-off.

The agreement only concerns this end of the season, how do you see the rest?

We will see.

There we came to the aid of the competition.

There was an urgent need to find a solution.
