(ANSA) - LONDON, 05 FEB - The British government of BorisJohnson is confident that it will be able to guarantee vaccination against Covid for all people aged 50 and over residing in the United Kingdom as early as the beginning of May, if all goes well, and to be able to complete the antidote administration program to the nine categories indicated as priority is anticipated.
This was stated by the Minister of Health, Matt Hancock, after a first statement on the subject made in the morning by government sources, with a reference to the end of May as expiry, and then vanish by a spokesman for Downing Street.
Hancock specified that it is an "ambition" linked to the premise that a whole series of "things continue to go well";
not without underlining the limitations due to the supply of vaccines currently produced by the pharmaceutical companies despite the guarantees and contracts signed by the Kingdom well in advance of other countries.
He nevertheless remarked that the current trend of the national campaign, with 11.5 million doses already administered and about 90% of over 75 years old now covered, allows us to hope for a further acceleration compared to the targets set initially.
The nine priority categories indicated in the British vaccination program start with the elderly starting from the over 80 year old (category 1) and gradually up to the over 50, as well as doctors, nurses, emergency services workers and serious chronic patients of all ages from 18 years and over.
Subsequently, the enlargement to people under 50 will start, while children under the age of 18 are not yet included in the vaccination plans of any Western country, pending a more specific experimentation on children and young people.
