A thud announces it.
And then it happens ...
On Wednesday, onlookers could watch a gigantic cliff of Dover's chalk cliffs plunge into the water.
The video footage of a stroller is currently spreading on the net.
During the demolition near Samphire Hoe, west of Dover, thousands of tons of chalk rock fell into the English Channel.
The more than 100 meters high, white chalk cliffs are a symbol of Great Britain. They formed around 90 million years ago and have always been prone to erosion. Usually they lose about an inch of rock every year due to the weather. But there are always major crashes. According to British media reports, an event like this has only occurred three times in the past twenty years.
