The district court in Kiel sentenced a former Bundeswehr officer to three years and three months in prison for the rape of two women soldiers.
Three months of this are considered to have been served due to the unlawful delay in the process, as the presiding judge said when the verdict was pronounced.
In addition to the prison sentence, the 32-year-old has to pay the women 9,000 euros in pain and suffering plus interest.
Due to material costs such as travel expenses, the number for one victim added up to a good 14,200 euros.
Under alcohol influence
The court saw it as proven that the defendant raped the then 18 and 22 year-old soldiers from Rostock after a barbecue on the military training area Todendorf in Schleswig-Holstein.
The act took place in November 2017. The man who was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crime has denied the allegations.
Police officers who were alerted arrested the man and handed him over to the police.
The women reported him that night.
As SPIEGEL reported at the time, another soldier is said to have even filmed the crime, but not intervened.
In the opinion of the court, the defendant went to the room of the two soldiers after the party.
Both were already asleep.
One of them was so drunk that she threw up in bed twice.
The soldier had entered the room with the feeling, "There's still something going on," said the presiding judge.
But this was not the case.
The process largely took place in camera.
