(ANSA) - ROME, 07 FEB - In the year of the great celebrations for the 700th anniversary of the death of the Supreme Poet, Dante Alighierie and his Comedy "debut" on television, for the first time in its entirety.
And for the first time read and interpreted by a woman: from February 21st to March 25th, every second evening on Rai5, Lucilla Giagnoni gives voice and face to the DivinaCommedia, bringing Dante beyond the threshold of the theater.
Three cantos a day, for about 30 minutes, until the 25th of March which, in 1300, was the day of the departure of Dante's journey.
A project that - with the support of the Faraggiana Theater of Novara, of which Lucilla Giagnoni is artistic director, and of the Municipality of Novara - came to life in the period of the first lockdown, during which the actress and narrator marked the days, from the stage of that same theater, with the readings of the Divine Comedy.
"A feat that has never been achieved. I am the first person in the world to have read the entire Divine Comedy on video - says Giagnoni to ANSA -. Benigni, Gassman or Carmelo Bene did not".
And for the first time, reading and interpreting the 100 songs, it is a woman.
"Dante is actually full of feminine acting, which does not mean being a woman. Maybe he didn't say it, but the Divine Comedy itself has a female voice - explains the actress -. There is no other poet who has been able to create an image, a such an amazing repertoire between Psyche, Man and Cosmos. All through the language of love. The Divine Comedy is basically a political act, it delivers a new language, just as mothers deliver it to babies while feeding ".
