The ECB president: avoid repeating past mistakes. "Draghi will restart the economy with EU help" (ANSA)

ECB President Christine Lagarde sees 2021 as a year of recovery for the euro zone and stresses that Europe must not end its anti-crisis monetary and budget support too soon.

In an interview with the Journal du Dimanche, Lagarde notes that the "recovery has slowed down but has not derailed. The citizens are obviously eagerly awaiting it".

The recovery, the president notes, will come in the summer and will lead the Union towards a greener and more digital future.

We must not "repeat the mistakes of the past, removing the stimuli at once" but implement a flexible reduction.

"Italy and Europe are fortunate that Mario Draghi has accepted the challenge to help put an end to Italy's economic and social crisis, at a time when this is the Eurozone country hit hardest by the pandemic." Christine Lagarde, president of the ECB, says this about the task of forming the government given to her predecessor at the Eurotower. "I have full confidence - says Lagarde in an interview with the French Journal Du Dimanche - that Mario Draghi will rise to the challenge. He has all the qualities that are needed: he has the competence, courage and humility necessary" to " restart the Italian economy with the help of Europe ".
