"When I started the chorus of Cursed Spring, I felt the thrill, the emotion of the audience: in that moment I understood that it was done".
Exactly 40 years ago, at the Sanremo Festival (5-7 February 1981),
Loretta Goggi
bewitched the Ariston with her most famous hit: "It makes me a certain effect to think that Cursed Spring is 40 years old, instead I turned 70 , it's not fair…. ", he jokes.
"I remember they advised me not to sing: the stereotype wanted showgirls suitable for marches. Nobody thought I could have the extension and power of Mina or Barbra Streisand. And instead, with a crazy unconsciousness, I went on. And then. it went as we know ".
The song, written by Paolo Amerigo Cassella and Totò Savio, originally intended to act as the closing theme of the show Hello Goggi on Canale 5, came second in the final ranking, behind Alice's 'Per Elisa', but has remained a great classic of music light Italian.
For the 40th anniversary, "Warner is preparing a celebratory video, since there were no clips at the time," explains Goggi.
"If I would like to go back to the festival to sing it? No ... But I am glad that the song still has a life: I think of Syria who sang it a cappella a few days ago, in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in Milan ... The video made the tour of the web, confirming people's love for that piece ".
In the year of the pandemic, the audience at the Ariston will remain empty: "It will be very difficult: it is the public that gives you the charge, the energy comes from there, especially from the gallery where the real public finds its place, not by invitation. more aseptic - underlines Goggi, who in 1986 was the first woman to conduct the festival - a challenge for Amadeus and Fiorello. But there are no alternatives and being able to bring the festival home is already a great result, it is a step forward ... Let's not forget that it is also a central event from the point of view of the media, advertising revenues, tourism. As the green light for Sanremo has arrived, so I would also like to reopen theaters and cinemas, with distancing and all the rules anti-Covid ".
