Munich -

Spaghetti Carbonara

,

Spaghetti Bolognese

or the very classic variant with tomato sauce:

there are numerous preparation

options for this popular type of

pasta

.

Especially during the corona lockdown, many hobby cooks in the home office are grateful for the abundance of recipes.

However, if you read the

results of the new eco-test

with

20 different types of spaghetti

, you can quickly lose your appetite - because not all products do well in the report of January 28, 2021.

Öko-Test: Comparison of spaghetti types - traces of glyphosate found in many noodle brands

First of all, it is frightening that

traces of glyphosate

were found

in half of the foods examined

.

"The

International Agency for Cancer Research (IARC)

 has classified the pesticide as

likely carcinogenic for humans

 ," writes

Öko-Test

in February magazine about the controversial

weedkiller

.

It also says: “The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) does not share this classification.

Glyphosate

can cause serious eye damage when applied in the field and is toxic to aquatic organisms, according to Echa. "

Should

consumers

now keep their

hands

off the affected

products

?

Öko-Test

does not go that

far

in the

analysis

.

The trace contents found are very low, it is said.

Spaghetti types at Öko-Test: mold toxin and contamination with mineral oil

But not only glyphosate becomes

a problem

in the

spaghetti test

.

In some brands,

contamination with mineral oil

 and

contamination with a mold

toxin were also

 detected.

“In

four spaghetti packs

in the test, we criticize what we consider to be a“ slightly increased ”content of saturated

mineral oil hydrocarbons

.

They can accumulate in the organs and in fatty tissue, ”says

Öko-Test

.

The

mold toxin Deoxynivalenol (DON)

was found in

two checked spaghetti packs

.

"DON can disrupt the immune system - less stressed

spaghetti

is therefore the better choice," is the conclusion here.

Aldi products were also examined in the test.

The discounter is currently planning a major innovation, which will probably mean a change for all customers.

Eco-test comparison: an overview of spaghetti ratings

In terms of taste, all types of spaghetti delivered an at least satisfactory result in the test.

Due to the defects found,

Öko-Test

only

rated

eight spaghetti brands

with the

top grade of “very good

”.

This includes all

five organic brands

.

Two products fail, a few more are just mediocre.

The

test winners

 include “Alnatura Spaghetti No.

3 ”,“ Dennree Spaghetti ”,“ DmBio Spaghetti ”,“ D'Antelli Spaghetti ”from Aldi Nord and“ De Cecco Spaghetti N ° 12 ”.

A further seven are rated “good” overall.

As there are among others: The "Barilla Spaghetti n.5" and the "Buitoni Spaghetti72".

The

spaghetti losers

at

Öko-Test

include the own brands of Edeka (“insufficient”) and Penny (“insufficient”).
