The inhabitants of Pekalongan, a town located in the center of the island of Java, had a funny surprise today.
They found themselves wading through blood-red waves.
An exceptional (and frightening) phenomenon that can be explained by the flooding of a dyeing factory.
The region is renowned for its large number of textile factories specializing in batik, a piece of fabric decorated, often with geometric patterns, using protective wax and dyes.
"They did not throw the dye on purpose, but several factories were flooded and the packages of dye were washed away," an official from the local disaster relief agency told AFP on Sunday. , Dimas Arga Yudha.
He also specified that this dye was neither toxic nor dangerous.
Using water pumps, the area was cleaned in less than an hour.
