Get a list of new terms in epidemiology approved by the Hebrew Language Academy - and in case you were wondering, the Hebrew term for epidemiology is "health research in the population". 

The terms include medical imaging (instead of X-ray), pioneering research (instead of pilot) and double-blind trial.

The plenum of the Hebrew Language Academy was held online, and approved a list of terms prepared by the Committee on Public Health Terms.

Some of them you already know - a global pandemic (pandemic), the detection of diseases, the rate of illness and the rate of mortality.

The terms are intended to create a common and uniform language of all those involved in public health, research and teaching.

The committee members said: "For us, the professionals who use language in our work and in teaching epidemiology, the need for uniform Hebrew terms has existed for years.

Here are some of the new terms in Hebrew: 

Seasonal trend - a change observed over time.



A retrospective study (retrospective study) - a study that begins with a particular health outcome in participants and re-examines previous exposure to a possible risk factor or protection.



Preliminary study (prospective study) - a study that begins with exposure to a possible risk or protection factor and follows the participants until the outcome occurs.



Causes a fog, a fog (confounder, instead of the term profit fog).



Meta-analysis - a weighted statistical analysis of the final results of several studies.



Health indicator - an index that reflects a set of other indices and indicates results or trends, such as the infant mortality rate.



Confidence interval (confidence interval; instead of the term profit: confidence interval).



Eshkol (in sample);

Cluster (in morbidity) instead of the term in English cluster.



Standardization.

The establishment of the Committee for Public Health in the Academy was initiated by Dr. Milka Donchin from the School of Public Health of the Hebrew University and Hadassah, and she also heads it.
