First lifted into the sky, then dropped deep: The New York Times documentary "Framing Britney Spears" traces how the infamous collapse and subsequent incapacitation of Britney Spears are said to have come about.

Now more and more celebrities show solidarity with the singer and demand an end to their father's guardianship.

It's 2007 when Britney Spears shaved off her hair in front of the paparazzi cameras running.

Eight years after her big break with her first album.

Shortly after a stay in a rehab clinic.

In the middle of the custody battle with her ex-husband Kevin Federline over their children.

The pop singer is mentally ill at this point, despite - or perhaps because of it - she is being torn apart by the gossip press, portrayed as crazy and a bad mother.

A few months later, Britney Spears is legally incapacitated in an urgent procedure, her father is appointed as her guardian - and is still today.

Since then, the question has been raised again and again whether the guardianship is legal and whether Britney is in this situation against her will.

Since a legal battle between Spears and her father two years ago, fans have been using the hashtag #FreeBritney to draw attention to the topic.

Now the documentary gives the movement a boost - and prominent support.

Miley Cyrus and Khloe Kardashian show solidarity

"We love Britney," Miley Cyrus calls into the microphone.

The singer used her appearance at this year's Super Bowl to make a clear statement.

Cyrus had already spoken out in favor of the #FreeBritney camp in the past, and now more celebrities are joining.

Courtney Love Kobain also posted the hashtag #FreeBritney, along with an apology to the singer - a gesture that many people are currently joining, because the documentary also shows the impact the public had on Spears' life.

"Sex and the City" star Sarah Jessica Parker also posted the hashtag, as did singer Bette Midler.

Model Khloe Kardashian commented on a Twitter post: "I pray for Queen Britney, it's so, so, so sad."

Well-known American drag queen Shea Coulée wrote on Twitter: “If there's one thing you learn from the documentary, it's that none of this would have happened to Britney if she were a man ... It's so angry.

And I want Britney to be set free. "
