"I think that women must be assisted in more appropriate environments, and must receive the necessary information", continued the commissioner - In the therapeutic indications of the products used, it is in fact foreseen that the women to whom the drug is administered must be able to have access in the same seat of adequate medical facilities, so as to be able to deal with any side effects.
"A condition - explains the commissioner - that often does not occur in our consulting rooms, where there is not always a medical figure and there is not perfect integration with the departmental offices. That is to say that ministerial indications may not be respected. . Hence the request to administer the drug preferably in a hospital setting, to protect women's health and in full compliance with the provisions of Law 194 ".
In the meantime, each local health authority has been asked to provide a series of information for each consulting office present: the presence of a functional link between the local services and the reference hospitals;
the identification of available offices with dedicated spaces;
specific training of the operators involved;
- the timely data collection through the Istat D12 form;
the definition of the admission criteria and the exclusion criteria;
the information to be provided to the patient;
the provision of informed consent;
the definition of well-defined operational protocols for the execution of voluntary termination of pregnancy with pharmacological treatment;
activation of monitoring of any side effects of voluntary termination of pregnancy carried out with the use of drugs.
"This monitoring - concludes Verì - will allow us to have a precise picture of the organization of our consultants with respect to the issue of pharmacological interruption of pregnancy, without prejudice to the indispensable role that these structures have always played in supporting women in a moment so delicate of one's life ".
