The two universities of Damascus and the Levant signed today a scientific and cultural cooperation agreement with the aim of supporting and developing joint cooperation in the fields of research, training and knowledge dissemination.

Under the agreement signed at the campus of Al-Sham University in Al-Tal in the countryside of Damascus, cooperation takes place between faculty members for the purposes of training and conducting joint research, in addition to joint cooperation in the field of mutual training for students in the laboratories.

With regard to the scientific activity, the two sides agreed to cooperate in the field of joint supervision of graduate students, conducting joint research and training courses, and training students in university hospitals and quality laboratories in both universities.

The two sides also agreed to facilitate the secondment of faculty members from Damascus University to Al-Sham Private University and facilitate participation in sports, artistic, social and cultural activities.

In a statement to the media following the signing of the cooperation agreement, the President of Damascus University, Dr. Muhammad Yasar Abdin, affirmed that the agreement comes from the role of Damascus University in supporting private universities to play its role optimally in the higher education system in Syria, indicating that it is an integration agreement between the two universities and an expansion of joint cooperation to include other colleges. The President of Al-Sham Private University, Dr. Sharif Al-Ashqar, drew attention to the importance of cooperation with the mother University of Damascus to push the research and scientific process forward, indicating that the heads of departments in the concerned colleges in the two universities will determine the executive frameworks for the agreement and how to provide training to university students in government university hospitals.
