(ANSA) - NEW YORK, 10 FEB - Larry Flynt, founder and editor of the red light magazine "Hustler", died in Los Angeles at 78 years old.

Paralyzed from the waist down by an attempted murder in 1978, Flynt died of heart problems.

The "king of porn" had made himself known for a series of legal debates inspired by the defense of freedom of expression, also meaning pornography. He had often been at odds with the religious right and had once sued televangelist Jerry Falwell in a case that went all the way to the Supreme Court. Four years ago, after Donald Trump's election to the White House, he launched his latest challenge: he offered $ 10 million "cash" to anyone who provided enough evidence to initiate the impeachment procedure and kick the president out of the StudioOvale. A staunch supporter and financier of the Democrats, the billionaire publisher was no stranger to sensational initiatives. As when in 1998 he took the field in defense of Bill Clinton, overwhelmed by the Monica Lewinsky scandal, and offered money to keys, revealed stories of betrayal by Republican leaders. A senator paid for it. Then in 2011 he took the side of Anthony Weiner, the husband of Hillary Clinton's personal assistant forced to resign from Congress for hard-sent photos to minors. Flynt offered him a job in his red light empire with a higher salary than the parliamentary one. (HANDLE).
