A 24-hour non-stop with 13 orthopedic operations around the world conducted with the use of mixed reality.
It is the health experiment organized by Microsoft and led by Thomas Gregory, Head of the Orthopedic & Trauma Department at the Avicenne AP-HP University Hospital (France), using the holographic computer for the Mixed Reality HoloLens 2.
The doctor collaborates in video conferencing with surgeons located in 13 different countries: France, India, United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Ukraine, Germany, Belgium, Morocco, Brazil, Bolivia, Mexico, United States and United Kingdom.
Thanks to HoloLens 2, surgeons are able to show their field of vision to colleagues in other parts of the world, share 'best practices' and interact with anatomical images of patients in the form of a hologram.
Italy is represented by Massimo Chessa, Head of the Cardiology Unit for Congenital Adults at the IRCCS Policlinico San Donato in Milan, who participates in one of the round tables on the use of this technology, which take place in parallel with the surgical interventions .
Mixed reality is a fusion of the physical world and the digital world that makes possible new interactions between humans, computers and the environment.
And holographic devices, such as Microsoft's Hololens, are capable of placing digital content in the real world as if it were actually there.
