"Notturno" by Gianfranco Rosi enters the shortlist of the best 15 documentaries in the running for an Oscar nomination.
Nominations drawn from the shortlist will be announced on March 15 and the statuettes will be awarded on April 25, two months late due to the Covid pandemic.
Rosi's film is distributed in North America by Super Ltd, a division of Neon.
Didn't it make it into the shortlist of the best foreign film which includes the Bosnian "Quo Vadis, Aida?"
presented in Venice.
And there is also another Italy in the shortlist of the Oscars announced tonight, in addition to Notturno by Gianfranco Rosi entered among the documentaries (and not on the foreign film): the makeup of Pinocchio by Matteo Garrone in the Make Up and hairstyles category, the soundtrack and the song 'Io Sì' interpreted by Laura Pausini for Edoardo Ponti's film with Sophia Loren 'Life in front of oneself', and Filippo Meneghetti, the Italian expat director in France whose debut film Due (in Italy will be released with Teodora ) passed the first step and entered the shortlist for the nomination of the international film. And there is Italy or rather Sophia Loren also in the shortlist for short documentaries with What Would Sophia Loren Do? by Ross Kauffman focusing on the actress
