After a fatal attack on a retired couple in Peine on Tuesday evening, the police are evaluating the traces secured at the crime scene.
According to current knowledge, two men rang the doorbell of the apartment in downtown Pein on Tuesday afternoon, said a police spokesman.
Apparently immediately after opening the 87-year-old man was attacked immediately.
He suffered serious injuries.
His 83-year-old wife was also attacked shortly thereafter.
She later died of her massive injuries, the police said.
The police are looking for the perpetrators and are investigating whether anything has been stolen from the apartment in an apartment building.
Police are looking for witnesses
The course of the crime and the motive are still unclear.
"We must first get a better picture of the situation," the spokesman described the state of the investigation.
