Tyron Ricketts: "In most of the more than 65 films I have played in so far, I am not German"

SPIEGEL:
Mr. Ricketts, on Wednesday evening you can be seen on ARD in "Herren", the first public service feature film with exclusively black leading actors.
How long have you waited for this opportunity?
Ricketts:
In my acting career there was an episode of "Soko Leipzig" in which, besides me, three other black actors, among them Günther Kaufmann, could be seen.
Mostly, however, the black actor or actress is used as the personified other.
A foreign body that does not belong to our society.
I am not German in most of the 65+ films I have appeared in so far.
A film like »Gentlemen«, which is about five black people but still has different biographies, feels like a relief for me after 25 years of professional experience.
SPIEGEL:
The series "Bridgerton" and "Lupine", which originally told all-white stories now with black actors, are a huge success on Netflix.
Is something changing in the television landscape in general?
