ROME - Music that becomes a painting, exploring the relationship between sounds, shapes and colors: this was the magic that Vassily Kandinsky set out to achieve in some of his works thanks to the gift of synaesthesia, a condition that endowed him with a special multisensory perception. Just to pay homage to this artist, considered an initiator of the abstract artistic movement, "Sound like Kandinsky" was born, a new project by Google Arts & Culture created together with the Pompidou Center. The project offers the opportunity to get to know Kandisky's synaesthetic abilities more closely, which allowed him to translate colors and shapes into sounds, harmonies and vibrations to compose lines and motifs, in a completely extraordinary creative process. At the same time, "Sound like Kandinsky" digitally collects and preserves some 3,700 works of art, personal photographs and documents of the artist, such as childhood memories, images of holidays with Paul Klee, or his studio in Neuilly. Thanks to the collaboration with experimental music artists Antoine Bertin and NSDOS, the more curious will also be able to test themselves with "Play a Kandinsky", an interactive experimentation that for the first time allows you to experience what Kandinsky may have heard while painting: with this instrument, which simulates the feelings experienced by the painter during the creation of his masterpiece "Yellow Red Blue" in 1925, can be interacted with the painting, exploring the sounds and emotions associated with colors and shapes.
