It's hard to disagree.

Anyone who really knows Chef

Israel Aharoni

- who marks 70 years of existence this year, including 50 with a braid and eyebrow icons - knows that unlike us, he does not belong to the mammal family.

Biologically, it is a bird from the pheasant family, which is very well known due to the elegant tail of the male, which it uses for courtship purposes and to threaten other dominant males - say, for example, Chef Eyal Shani.

"I'm a peacock," he admits without hesitation.

"Actually, you could say I'm moving on a range of between simple and modest and extremely peacock. I have, for example, a huge white fur coat, just like a pimp's, that I walk with in the street and feel completely comfortable with. I also felt really comfortable in the production for Factory 54 and the truth is "I was very flattered that they wanted me. Buena, I'm 70. There are quite a few studs around that they could choose."

So why did they choose you?

"Because today there's a kind of global trend of taking real people who'm not models - and that's great. I'm always amazed by this thing of old age in fashion. There's like an imaginary order that says from a certain age onwards you have to dress a certain way and I really can't figure it out. "41-year-old men only wear gray, beige and bluish? Why should they not, so to speak, go wild with colors and cuts?"

Why is it forbidden?

Everything is allowed.

"True. Like, not really everything. Age still matters. I, for example, no longer go with shorts, but I definitely like to dress nicely. It's part of defining our identity, humans."

How would you describe your personal style?

"Eclectic. I like brands, but gently, at the level of individual items. I'm talking to you about Versace, Prada, Armani, Boss, Diesel, stuff like that. The designer I most connect with is without a doubt Yuji Yamamoto. I also have a lot. "Simple and good basics - for example, of Banana Republic, which I really like. Indeed, in shoes I go wild. I really like shoes, but I do not exaggerate terribly. I have something like 40 pairs, some of which I have owned for decades."

As expected, Aharoni does not allow the "Master Chef" dresser to do all the work on her own.

"It tastes good, but I also bring quite a few clothes of my own to the show, because this is actually the only opportunity I have today to dress nicely. I enjoy it. I really think I'm a natural peacock, so why stop it? I guess there are those who think I'm "I dress a little extreme and I guess some of them are right, but I can't stop it."

Aharoni, like Leonardo da Vinci, is a classic cluster man, with impressive skills in a variety of fields - painting (the walls of his apartment on Sheinkin Street in Tel Aviv are covered by his invested works), music (he is a sought-after DJ specializing in house and techno), art (he A very dedicated collector), fashion (the photos for Factory 54 really weren't his first) and oh, yes, also cooking - which he has been careful to cultivate for many years.

Aesthetics is without a doubt one of the main anchors in his life.

In general, he is a sophisticated person, so he prefers to elegantly skip the cliché between fashion and cooking.

"Some people know how to cook and have no idea about fashion, and vice versa," he says.

"I think the affinity for fashion is something that stands on its own. I once did a program on testimonial dishes and stayed with some rabbi. When I got to her house, I noticed she was sweet on levels you don't understand. I told her 'I see you dressed nicely for the TV.' She scolded me with contempt and said to me 'All men are the same. What, do you want to see me in slippers and a dirty apron from cooking? Even when I cook I'm dressed like that. I kept my mouth shut in shame. I deserved it. I earned it honestly. She's right. "I also don't wear a dirty apron in the kitchen. I dress clean and tidy for cooking as well."

How much do you invest, if at all, in grooming and anti-aging?

"" Face cream on the morning and there it ends.

Listen, I'm 70 years old and I'm totally happy with what I see in the mirror.

"Take it easy

, right. Are you careful about the corona?

" I got vaccinated twice, I'm already three weeks later, and I'm still careful but without canceling my life.

I'm busy as I was not long: Master Chef, workshops I give zoom, photographs plan a new reality show that I still can not talk about it - not missing. "

I opened two rhythmic Tel Aviv recently. Went quite brilliant of you to the days of Corona.

" True, but One of them opened four months before the corona began.

As for the second I was really debating whether to open or not - still, it's a lot of money to invest in corona time - but in the end I decided to go for it and it seemed to me I did in my mind.

By the way, I will soon be opening a butcher shop in Sheinkin as well. "

It is very difficult to watch the old food series "The Wonderful Journey of Aharoni and Gidi" on "Reshet" 13 and ignore the clear differences in style between the two.

That is, because the first has style and the second has a characterless button-down shirt from the nineties and underneath it a t-shirt that is too big in a dead color.

"I think over time I greatly improved his look," Aharoni claims.

"But you know, Gidi will forever be left with an open T-shirt. Well, at least he understood what good jeans are."

Aharoni's resume on television is long and varied.

There is no doubt that he deserves to be judged in prestigious and popular cooking competitions that are broadcast in prime time.

Still, it was a little weird to see him join the cast of "Master Chef" in the seventh season - and more on the standard of Reshef chef Jonathan Rochefeld.

Aharoni is a sympathetic person who loves people.

The judgment and criticism from him onwards.

He has opened quite a few successful restaurants and published 18 recipe books, but his tape-cast really doesn’t sit well with throwing insults at shaky contenders.

"I debated for a long time whether to go," he admits.

"I did not know if I would be good at it, because I really have never done such a thing - indeed, in the first few episodes I have not yet found my place and tried to understand what I do. Over time, I just became myself. I think I am very interested in Master Chef. I say "Things are very reasoned and that's it. Being 'nasty' is a matter of personal style and I'm not in that direction at all. I think everything should be said gently and politely."

At least from the other side of the screen, sometimes it seems like you really do not want to be gentle and polite towards a second stag.

"The truth is that I am torn with laughter from him. It is impossible not to admire his talent for extracting the flow of words from this sequence of consciousness, that the demon knows where he comes from. After three years with him learn to clear all the baroque around him and understand that from time to time he also says nonsense. Gets a little lost under the continuum and then I resist him.On one of the seasons he said something that really made me laugh and I just had to say to him ‘Enough already Eyal, you talk nonsense.’ I liked that in response he replied ‘Aharoni, not everything I say "That's right. I mean, he's laughing at himself. I like that."

Last year almost, really almost, a groundbreaking event took place in his life.

"I was completely fed up with the braid," he reveals.

"I felt that it was completely unnecessary for me and that maintaining it was a completely unnecessary hassle. I said to myself 'enough, enough' and decided that by the end of the year I would take it down."

And lo and behold, she's still there.

"True, because she's been hanging out there for so many years, that in the end I did not have the courage, but she's really superfluous. I want to tell you that one day I'll just cut her out and that's it, without making a fuss, but as you can see I already promised it to myself and it does not It happened, so I prefer not to make statements. "

And what about backing up?

Will you keep combing them upwards forever or are there thoughts of a haircut?

"My eyebrows are very dominant by nature and I built a career on them, so why should I cut them out? My two grandparents had one eyebrow. We are Bukharans. That's how I was born. That's what it is. And if that's what it is, why not cultivate and comb it properly?"
