Workers nucleated in the Ademys teaching union voted in an assembly a
stoppage of activities for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
of next week in the City of Buenos Aires, coinciding with the start of the school year, in the framework of the coronavirus pandemic , in demand of better sanitary and labor conditions.
The measure was decided on Thursday at an assembly in which "more than 500 affiliates participated," Amanda Martín, union secretary of Ademys, told the Telam news agency, adding that the meeting analyzed "complaints that give an account of the
state unfortunate of the schools
, not only from the epidemiological point of view but also from the educational point of view. "
Ademys has about
600 affiliates out of a total of 60 thousand Buenos Aires teachers
.
Of that union they assured that they will contact "with all the unions that have expressed themselves against returning in these conditions".
"The conditions for a safe return as advertised are not in place; on the contrary, in fact the responsibility for the application of the protocols is defined in each school, which will
widen educational inequality
, since they do not have the same resources all of them "added the union leader.
In the same sense, he maintained that, in the meeting that they held on Thursday with the Buenos Aires authorities, it was noticed that "there are three axes that mark the improvisation of the return in the face-to-face mode."
Among these problems there remain "the objective indexes that the City Government takes into account to consider that the reopening is safe; the second axis of problems is the conditions of
infrastructure, connectivity and digital devices
because there are a large number of students who, because they are from risk or living with risky people we know that we are going to maintain virtuality ".
"The third nucleus of problems are the exceptions for the teachers that make up the
risk groups
, older, and, above all, taking into account that it is a labor sector where there are mostly workers who are in charge of home care for different reasons, "said Martín.
At this point, he added: "At the meeting we asked about the exemption from attending the workplace established today [this Friday] in the Official Gazette by the Ministry of Labor of the Nation, and the answer was that as each jurisdiction decides how to implement it, here [in the City]
will not be valid
. "
"The same thing happens with the risk group of more than 60 years, they said they were going to evaluate it. Meanwhile,
there is no timetable for the vaccination of teachers,
" he said.
Martín added that, despite the fact that Ademys presented the Buenos Aires government with a list of ten urgent measures to prepare a safe return, nothing was done about it.
"On the contrary," he denounced, "school construction was halted and
the Sarmiento Plan was cut
, which allows boys and girls to have access to connectivity when we know that many of them will continue with virtual classes."
In the same vein, the general secretary of Ademys, Mariana Scayola, said this Friday morning, in statements to El Uncover Radio, that "the conditions are not in place for a
safe presence
in schools."
Likewise, he pointed out that "the same teacher can be in
twenty bubbles in one day
and traveling by public transport."
And he remarked that it is "a risk for him and for those who participate in the bubbles."
