  • Shiitake mushrooms are affected by a recall.

  • The manufacturer warns.

  • Consumption carries serious health risks.

Dietzenbach - The company SSP-Trade & Consult is recalling a Japanese product because of serious health risks when consuming it.

Shiitake mushrooms that have entered the German retail trade via the Hessian importer are affected.

The reason for the recall is, according to the Dietzenbach company, "an increased sulfur dioxide content and a lack of labeling of sulfur dioxide as an allergen".

Specifically, the recall concerns mushrooms that were sold in different packages.

SSP-Trade & Consult GmbH is a trading company based in Dietzenbach, Hesse.

The company says it imports goods from Japan, other Asian countries, North America and Europe to Germany.

“We are also currently exporting our product range to 34 European countries,” writes the company.

"Resident Japanese and Asian restaurants, sushi bars, grocery stores, hotels, catering services and food wholesalers" are supplied in Germany and Europe.

When it comes to the recall, the importer reports: For example, sulfur dioxide can "cause nausea, stomach ache, diarrhea, headache and vomiting".

Asthma attacks and allergic reactions are also possible.

Consumers who have bought the product are therefore asked not to consume the mushrooms.

“All customers can return the item in retail outlets for a refund of the purchase price.” Recalls are becoming more and more common, especially in the food sector.
